7th/8th Grade Basketball

Junior Varsity and Varsity

 

TEAM STRUCTURE

Team structure will consist of up to no more than 12 to 13 children based on evaluations at the start of the season. The best players in 7th and 8th grade will make up the Varsity team. Depending on the number of children who come out, there may be cuts at this level with the opportunity to play on the 7th and 8th grade JV team. Coaches may find that as little as 7-8 players are capable of Varsity level play, and others may be brought up from the Junior Varsity from game to game based on their progress throughout the season. This is done at the coaches' discretion to develop players who are not quite ready for Varsity and to give them the best opportunity to succeed at a level appropriate to their skill set. 

 

TEAM PHILOSOPHY

The team philosophy at this level focuses on preparing the children for high school basketball. Team(s) will play competitive schedules with emphasis on playing hard to succeed. The concept at this level is that the best players are to play in the game based on the coach’s decision. It is not a requirement at this level for all children to play in each game.  However, coaches are encouraged to make the best effort to involve all players in each game as appropriate
